Michel C. Leger passes away suddenly at the age of 77
Shediac, N.B. — The greater Shediac community mourns the sudden passing of Michel C. Leger, mayor of the Town of Shediac for 15 years from 1980 to 1995. Mr. Leger died suddenly on July 11 at the age of 77.
“It is with sadness that our community learned of the death of Michel C. Leger, former mayor of the Town of Shediac,” said Roger Caissie, mayor of the municipality. “Elected five times, he is the mayor who served the Town of Shediac the longest in our history."
Mr. Leger was a pillar of his community in Shediac. He also contributed to many causes throughout his life, being an active member of the Rotary Club. A proud graduate of St. Francis Xavier University in 1970, he went on to earn his law degree from the University of New Brunswick in 1972. He devoted his career to law and most recently served as chair of the New Brunswick Assessment and Planning Appeal Tribunal.
Given the significant impact Michel C. Leger had on the entire community of Shediac during his five terms as mayor, but also as a leader of our community throughout his life, the Town of Shediac will fly flags at half-mast throughout its territory from Monday morning until the funeral service on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
“On behalf of the Town of Shediac, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the entire Leger family, especially his son, Yves, who serves as the Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality,” added Mr. Caissie.
Those wishing to offer their condolences may do so during visiting hours at the Passage Chartersville Funeral Home located at 363 Amirault Street in Dieppe, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm, as well as on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 1 pm to 3 pm. The funeral service will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, located at 415, Main Street in Shediac, starting at 4 pm.
