PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release: October 29, 2026.

Shediac – The Shediac Fire Department responded overnight from Wednesday to Thursday to battle a major fire in a 36-unit apartment building located on Cornwall Road, near Canadian Tire.
All residents were safely evacuated. A relief centre has been set up at the Shediac Multifunctional Centre to welcome them and provide immediate support.
The Town of Shediac would like to acknowledge the remarkable work carried out by its volunteer fire department, as well as the excellent cooperation of fire departments in the region, particularly those in Dieppe, Cap-Acadie, Moncton, and Beausoleil. Responders from across the Southeast answered the call to ensure that affected residents had access to essential services.
“The most important thing at a time like this is knowing that no one was injured,” said Shediac Mayor Patricia Bourque-Chevarie. “Our community can count on the support of Shediac staff, partners, and neighbouring municipalities to assist residents affected by this disaster.”
Sea Breeze Properties, the building’s owner, is in direct contact with tenants and is working closely with relevant responders and partners to find temporary housing solutions.
The Town would also like to thank the many local businesses in the Shediac area that have generously offered their support to those affected throughout the day.
Those wishing to help those affected are invited to make a monetary donation to the Vestiaire St-Joseph. These contributions will be used to purchase gift cards so that those affected can buy food and essential items. Please note that the Vestiaire St-Joseph does not accept donations of clothing or material goods, and that no donations should be brought to the Shediac Multifunctional Centre.
