A New Municipal Council Takes Office in Shediac

Shediac, NB – The Town of Shediac swore in the members of the new municipal council on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in the town’s council chamber. The Lobster Capital of the World is now led by Mayor Patricia Bourque-Chevarie, supported by nine council members. Mrs. Bourque-Chevarie is also the first woman to hold the office of mayor in this municipality of southeastern New Brunswick.

Mrs. Bourque-Chevarie intends to serve the greater Shediac community in the best interests of the entire population.

“Thank you to the citizens of the municipality for the trust they have placed in us,” said Mrs. Patricia Bourque-Chevarie following the swearing-in ceremony. “I would also like to thank our families and congratulate all the candidates who ran in this year’s election.”

The new mayor expressed her desire to work collaboratively to advance the municipality and improve the quality of life for all residents of the Lobster Capital of the World.

“Congratulations to the council members who make up Shediac’s new municipal council,” she continued. “I wish us a productive, constructive, and rewarding term filled with great achievements for our entire community. »

Over the past year, Shediac’s municipal council has been reduced to ten members. Six of them represent the Shediac area as council members, in addition to the mayor, along with one council member for each of the Pointe-du-Chêne, Scoudouc, and Shediac Cape wards.

In Ward 1, council members Janice Cormier, Germaine Gallant, and Marie O’Brien were elected, along with council members Paul Boudreau, Émile Arsenault, and Léo Doiron. Council member Harry McInroy was re-elected to represent the residents of Ward 2 in Pointe-du-Chêne. In Ward 3 of Shediac Cape, Councilor John Steeves was re-elected by acclamation, while Joël Després was re-elected in Ward 4 to represent the citizens of the Scoudouc area.

The members of the Municipal Council adopted Mrs. Bourque-Chevarie’s recommendation to appoint Paul Boudreau as deputy mayor.

Mayor Bourque-Chevarie also noted that, despite varied professional backgrounds, as well as sometimes differing opinions and values, one thing unites all council members: the desire to make Shediac one of the best places to live.

The first regular meeting of the municipal council will be held on June 22, 2026, at 6 PM, in the council chamber.
