Shediac maintains its growth in a responsible manner

Shediac (NB) – The Town of Shediac had another remarkable year in 2025, reaching more than $111 million in building permit value. The residential and multi-family construction sectors remained stable throughout the past year, with permit values comparable to the previous year. In the commercial and institutional sector, the municipality was able to count on a substantial boost to reach a total of over $66 million in 2025, thanks to the granting of a permit for the construction of a new English-language K-12 school.

The residential sector remained steady with 152 permits issued for a value of just over $18 million over the past year. For its part, the multi-family construction sector reached a total of nearly $27 million over the same period.

"Shediac is experiencing sustained growth while ensuring well planned, responsible, and balanced development for the benefit of the entire population," said Shediac Mayor Roger Caissie.

Commercial and institutional building permits slowed somewhat during the first eleven months of 2025. However, the Town of Shediac's economic development team remained confident, knowing that the announcement of the location of the new English-language school was imminent.

" After a few months of waiting, the provincial government announced the location of the new English-language school, which will serve students from kindergarten to grade 12 in Shediac," said Danny Pellerin, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. This major project will have a significant economic impact on this part of the town."

The location chosen near Highway 15 and Ohio Road, leading to the entrance of Parlee Beach Provincial Park, will open up a whole new area for economic development in the Town of Shediac.

"Developers are already at work in this area of Shediac, and with an announcement like the school, there is, of course, more interest," said Mr. Pellerin. "Shediac is increasingly part of the discussion among national and provincial investors."

The building permit for the new English-language school alone, valued at $61,939,387, represents more than half of the total value of building permits issued in 2025.

It should be noted that in 2023, the Town of Shediac surpassed the $100 million mark in building permit value for the first time, reaching a total of over $105 million. The year 2025 marks the second time in the municipality's history that this symbolic threshold has been exceeded, reflecting the dynamism and vigor of local development.

The coastal town's main strategy remains focused on population growth, providing services that promote the safety and quality of life of residents, and attracting local and outside investors.

"I am proud of the work accomplished over the past five years by the municipal team to ensure sustained and responsible growth," said Mr. Caissie, who will not be seeking another term as mayor of Shediac. “It will now be up to the next members of the municipal council to continue this momentum, while remaining true to the values that make Shediac one of the best places to live, work, and do business."
